O. Henry (real name William Sidney Porter) — an American writer. He is rightly called a master of the short story: in his works, often filled with sharp humor, he succinctly encapsulates the plot and a completely unexpected twist. The heroes of his stories are people from different social strata: millionaires, cowboys, speculators, bandits, artists, laundresses, gold diggers. Throughout his life, O. Henry wrote about six hundred works. In 1918, the O. Henry Award for the best short story was established. Translated from English by N. Daruzes, E. Kalashnikova, T. Ozyorskaya. Illustrations by Yu. Bogachyov. For middle school age.
