Bertrand Russell (1872–1970) – Nobel Prize laureate in literature, English mathematician, public figure and one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century, author of the famous works "The Problems of Philosophy," "Human Knowledge: Its Scope and Limits," "The ABC of Relativity" and the fundamental work "A History of Western Philosophy."
In the collection "Skeptical Essays," the great British philosopher discusses, in his characteristic witty, impeccably logical and precise manner, the topics that concerned him: about the freedom of thought and freedom in society, about the influence of machines on human emotions and behavior, about the ideal of happiness in the West and in the East, about "useful" and "useless" knowledge, about the confrontation between idealism and rationalism, and the necessity of reasonable skepticism in all areas of life — from love to politics.
