The Merchant Has Arrived! A Narrative about a Ruined Nobleman and Wealthy Merchants

Famous satirist Nikolai Alexandrovich Leikin once again demonstrates his mastery, as always addressing sharp social themes. Accurately and caustically, to the point that it is impossible not to laugh, he describes various types of society at the end of the 19th — beginning of the 20th century. Russia, at the crossroads of eras, underwent gradual but inevitable changes. The nobility became less and less a real force, while merchants gained more influence. The author does not provide unequivocal assessments of this phenomenon, trying to show the situation from different perspectives. Vivid, lively images draw us to experience together with them the story of changes and how today's "masters of life" bought the property of yesterday's. Although the described story may seem distant from our time, only the scenery changes, while people remain the same. Like other works of Leikin, this novel is a true encyclopedia of the life of the Russian people, not only as it was at the end of the 19th century but also as it is now, in the 21st century. The cheerful and sad, sharply satirical and lyrical lines of this work are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.
