In the far north of Sweden, in the wilderness that locals call Vittulajänkkä, meaning Dog's Swamp, little is known about what is happening in the big world. It is the 1960s, and rock and roll is booming around the world, but in Vittula, they have never heard of it. Everything here is different from somewhere out there, where there are big houses, beautiful cars, and crowds of people. Here, winter reigns with snow, and summer with mosquitoes. The locals - Swedes, Sámi, and Finns - speak Swedish with a Finnish accent, and Finnish with a Swedish one. The main entertainment is hunting to the point of madness, sauna, hotter than hell itself, and festive feasts that even Gargantua would be afraid of. But life in Vittula is vibrant. The two boys, Matti and Niila, encounter all sorts of people - a black pastor who mysteriously ended up at the Arctic Circle, a witch, a beautiful girl in a luxurious car, aliens from a mysterious place called Missouri, and most importantly - a record by the "Beatles" that will change their lives.
