The action of the novel “Quiet Don” begins in the last pre-war days of the Cossack village. Soon, the peaceful life will remain in the past: it will be destroyed by the battle with an external, foreign enemy - in World War I, and then with its own neighbors, relatives, and yesterday's friends - in the Civil War. The main character of the novel, Grigory Melekhov, was preparing himself for a peaceful family life and work, but fate tears him away from home and throws him into a whirlpool of tragic events. He spends many years on the front line, trying to find meaning and purpose in everything that is happening, - but he cannot find a place for himself on anyone's side. In this divided world, there are no right or wrong. The meaning of life is preserved in loved ones and close friends, held in the poignant love story of Grigory, but even the dearest people are taken away from him one by one by fate.
The main epic of the 20th century is published with illustrations by Yuri Rebrov.
