God's Birds

Ivan Sergeyevich Shmelev (1873—1950) — a Russian writer and publicist, twice a nominee for the Nobel Prize; nicknamed the «Orthodox literator» for a large number of texts on the spirituality of the Russian person. While in emigration, «not for a moment in his soul's burning does he cease to think about Russia and suffer from its misfortunes». The collection «God's Birds» includes the essay «On the Rocks of Valaam» (1897) — the first significant work of I. S. Shmelev, stories from different years, and memories.
