Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District

The book includes the novella "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District", stories "The Like-Minded", "The Beast", "The Old Genius", "The Scarecrow" by the remarkable Russian writer N. S. Leskov (1831–1895).
The writer approaches the portrayal of his characters with equal attention, whether it be a beggar commoner, a merchant woman, or an important official. Often his stories, filled with drama, are based on real events and resemble a documentary chronicle of Russian life.
