On April 7, 1954, a boy named Chen Gangsheng was born in Hong Kong. His parents were so poor that they offered to leave the baby as a pledge with an English midwife who assisted in the delivery until they earned 1500 Hong Kong dollars to pay for medical services.
In 1961, the family moved to Australia in search of a better life, while the seven-year-old boy remained in Hong Kong and enrolled in the Beijing Opera School. Training from 5 AM to midnight every day, under the strict supervision of teachers, he honed his skills. In 1976, while working on a construction site, the young man received a name from his peers that brought him worldwide fame. This is how Jackie Chan began his career.
This sincere book is a living and truthful portrayal woven from the memories of a great actor, an ordinary man who had the courage to do extraordinary things. Together with him, you will retrace this path—from a stunt coordinator for low-budget films to a director and actor of blockbuster movies, from a poor waiter to a patron and collector of antiques.
Perhaps these vivid stories would never have been seen by readers if Zhu Mo, Jackie Chan's friend, had not once suggested to him: “How about we make a book?” For three years, Zhu Mo recorded his memories every day and organized them logically, adding her personal stories about working with a hero of millions.
