Psalter

The Psalter is a liturgical book containing 150 psalms that are part of the Bible.

The psalms are poetic prayers addressed to God, reflecting themes of faith, repentance, gratitude, hope, and spiritual searching. The text is traditionally used in personal prayer practice and in worship.

The Psalter holds a special place in the Christian tradition: it is read both in its entirety and in parts, in a specific sequence (cathisms). The book is in demand for regular reading as well as for familiarizing oneself with spiritual heritage.

This edition is the Synodal translation of the Psalter texts.

Color illustrations for the book of psalms were created by the talented French painter and graphic artist James Tissot (1836–1902).

Wishing to depict biblical scenes as accurately as possible, Tissot traveled to the Holy Land to better understand the history and culture of its inhabitants, which is why his works turned out to be particularly precise and expressive.
