Dmitry Nikolayevich Sazdovnikov (1847–1883) — Russian ethnographer, folklorist, and poet. The text "Riddles of the Russian People" is one of the first systematic works of domestic folklore dedicated to the study of folk riddles. D. N. Sazdovnikov not only collected and classified thousands of riddles but also analyzed the nature of thinking and worldview of our ancestors. The context shows how the increased public interest in folk culture in the second half of the 19th century predetermined the concept of the anthology, establishing it as an important monument of national identity. Thanks to the preserved living folk language, one can see how the mythopoetic thinking of the Russian peasant found its expression in metaphorical and analogical images.
