Mirgorod

«Mirgorod» — a collection of stories that shows how the familiar way of life cracks at the seams.

If «Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka» were light and cheerful, then here Gogol showed a world where behind laughter lies anxiety.

In «Mirgorod», peace and storm coexist side by side: the idyll of «Old-World Landlords» and the tragedy of «Taras Bulba», the mystical horror of «Viy» and the absurd quarrel between Ivan Ivanovich and Ivan Nikiforovich. These stories gradually lead to a feeling of loss, after which only regret remains: «It is boring in this world, gentlemen!».
