The Ecstasies of Man

This book is dedicated to the study of human ecstasy. Its author—a talented popularizer of science, an Italian writer of the 19th century, professor at the Florentine Museum of Natural Sciences, Paolo Mantegazza. He is the author of a number of popular and at the same time scientifically satisfying works on psychology—about the nature of pleasure, suffering, love, etc. All these works contain a brief history of the studied issue and an exposition by the author of many interesting observations of his own and others in this field.

This work presents not only a general interest for the educated public. It can also be useful and instructive for educators who strive to seriously address the upbringing of youth, painters, sculptors, and generally artists studying and depicting human types, and finally for actors wishing to embody the immortal types of dramatic art into living images.
