The World in a Drop (set of 2 books)

Subtle and concise Japanese haiku poetry has always been a reflection of the natural world, embodied in the endless change of seasons. A person living an ordinary life, whose five senses are attuned to the constant perception of the beauty of the earth and sky, flowers and grasses, the songs of cicadas and the warmth of the sun, — is the lyrical hero of the genre that unites poetry, painting, and calligraphy. Haiku authors created a kind of poetic calendar that included diverse plants and animals, insects, birds, and fish, as well as everyday sketches and festivals. This unique edition offers the reader a perspective on the natural world through the lens of Japanese triplets translated by Professor-Eastern scholar Alexander Arkadyevich Dolin. The design features numerous engravings and drawings by medieval Japanese authors, as well as paintings by the famous contemporary master of Japanese painting in the sumi-e style, Oleg Usov. The collection is complemented by calligraphic works by Stanislav Usov.

The book “The World in a Drop of Dew” covers the first two seasons of the year — spring and summer. The book “The World in a Drop of Rain” represents the last two seasons — autumn and winter, and also includes an appendix with reflections from classic authors on the essence of poetic creativity. The two volumes are sold in an elegant case, decorated with bright designs from original Japanese screens of the Edo period.
