Vincent Van Gogh is truly a legendary figure. Perhaps no other artist in the world has had such a large number of research works written about them; no event from his life has been overlooked and has been analyzed in detail many times, nevertheless causing an enormous amount of speculation. No personal life has been so thoroughly studied that it has even served as the plot for monographs and novels, and his relationship with his brother Theo formed the basis of a well-known film. Doctors still argue about what exactly Van Gogh suffered from and how it affected his creativity. Artists from various movements and styles fight for the right to call Van Gogh their teacher and guru, while he, a self-taught artist, was not a representative of any known school.

The art of Japan stands out vividly with its unusual aesthetics against the backdrop of world culture, and to a Western person, it appears very attractive, mysterious, and incomprehensible. These are popular trends in Japanese visual art: yamato-e, sumi-e, and ukiyo-e, and a whole host of famous masters, such as: Kano Eitoku, Kano Sanraku, Toyo Sesshu, Hishikawa Moronobu, Utamaro Kitagawa, Suzuki Harunobu, Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, and others.

To answer all these questions and get closer to unraveling Bosch's mystery, one must understand the time he lived in, who surrounded him, and what influenced his art. Let us try to figure it out.
