Redemption

American women whose lives were connected with Vietnam, even if only for a short time, have always been secondary characters, background figures in literature about the Vietnam War, but in Alice McDermott's novel, they are at the center.
This is a story about women who became unwitting witnesses to tremendous and tragic events. Tricia — a shy newlywed who married a promising engineer working in naval intelligence. Sharlene — an experienced "corporate" wife and mother of three children.
