Shklovtsy

The book by Zalman Shneour (real name Zalman Zalkind, 1887 – 1959) "Shklovtsy" is a collection of stories about the writer's hometown, infused with gentle irony and nostalgia.

The author tries to depict the Belarusian shtetl in its cultural uniqueness, emphasizing local characteristics and subtly debating with the singer of Ukrainian towns Sholem Aleichem. The lyrical portrait of the shtetl in the book "Shklovtsy" is undoubtedly one of the best in Jewish literature.
