Haim Grade's works are characterized by detailed descriptions and sharp drama. His books, rich in historical and factual information, can rightly be called "parts of a great encyclopedia of Jewish life".

The novel "The Unmarried Woman" is a dramatic narrative about the fate of a lonely young woman who becomes a victim of the war between two rabbis. One follows the command of the Law, while the other listens to the voice of conscience. Gradually, the conflict escalates into a tragedy set against the backdrop of the established way of life of the Jewish community in Vilnius.
