Volokolamsk Highway

Alexander Alfredovich Bek (1902/03 — 1972) — Russian Soviet writer, participant in the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, military correspondent. The central place in Bek's work is occupied by the famous tetralogy «Volokolamsk Highway», based on the feat of the Panfilov Division during the heroic defense of Moscow in 1941.

The narrative is told from the perspective of Senior Lieutenant Baurzhan Momysh-Uly, who commanded an infantry battalion.

After just a month of fighting near Moscow, the real Momysh-Uly was appointed commander of a regiment, and in 1945 he led a division; in 1990, posthumously, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
