The golden age of detective fiction left many star names — A. Christie, G. K. Chesterton, G. Mitchell, and others. Among this bright array, John Dickson Carr (1906–1977) occupies the most honorable place. A murder in a locked room, where there is no room for wild chases and shootouts, and the circle of suspects is maximally limited — is a favorite trick of the author. Carr engages the reader in the web of cleverly set traps, deceptive moves, and subtle hints, inviting them to participate in solving an ingenious puzzle, unraveling the threads of "impossible" crimes.
The novel "Murders in the Style of Judy and Punch" continues the series about the magnificent Sir Henry Merrivale — a charming, whimsical fat man, who, according to critics, has become one of the most extraordinary detectives in detective literature. Kenwood Blake, an agent of the British Secret Service, receives a telegram from Sir Henry, his eccentric boss, demanding that he urgently leave London for Torquay on an urgent matter, just before his own wedding. Knowing Merrivale's crazy nature, Kenwood understands that this trip is not promising anything good for him, and it will surely turn into another devilish affair. Kenwood's fiancée is also heading to Torquay with him...
