Since childhood, we are accompanied by his extraordinary works: «Around the World in Eighty Days», «The Fifteen-Year-Old Captain», «The Children of Captain Grant», «Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea». This edition presents one of Jules Verne's best novels, «The Mysterious Island». The adventurous plot is interwoven with a storm, a volcanic eruption, pirate attacks, and, of course, the story of survival on a piece of land in the middle of the ocean. Resourceful heroes, cast ashore by a hurricane on a deserted island, make their own sugar and smelt steel, manufacture bricks, wool, glass, sulfuric and nitric acid, nitroglycerin and dynamite, and construct a telegraph and a spinning machine. «The Mysterious Island» is an exciting story of the islanders' adventures, «a survival manual», a hymn to human courage and willpower. Thanks to the magnificent illustrations by Czech artist Zdeněk Burian (1905–1981), readers will fully experience the heroes' amazing adventures, make astonishing discoveries, and feel the joy of victory over the elements.
