Land of Soviets. Forgotten Leaders

Their names are known throughout the country even today, but few remember how they entered history and what they did for their state. They were caught in the maelstrom of civil strife and social upheaval, changing the course of history. Cities, streets, and mountain peaks were named in their honor, monuments were erected to them, and their victories were recounted in schools, but they could not know that years later their biographies would undergo meticulous editing, and all their achievements would be forgotten. The heroes of the book are military leaders, state and party figures, whose fates became a reflection of the era. Three Russian revolutions, the Civil War, the Great Terror, the Great Patriotic War, the Cold War, the era of stagnation—these complex, and sometimes terrifying events for the country run as red threads through the biographies of the "forgotten leaders," shaping their characters and explaining many of their actions. These challenging times were not just a backdrop for the heroes of the book; they became their very lives.
