Premonition of Trouble

What would our world today look like if the history of the 20th century had taken a different path? To what extent do our lives, our beliefs, our ideologies depend on real historical events? What would the victorious - aged - decrepit and bloated national socialism look like if it had survived to this day? What would happen to Russia in this case? The line between real historical background and fiction runs in the novel up to 1935: before that, the characters invented by the author live and act in the history we know, after that - history begins to move in a completely different way. It is said that history has no subjunctive mood - shall we check?
