Tranquility

The debut collection of stories by Fyodor Sheida consists of witty and poignant tales, which form a tragicomic series about modern Russia. An intern reporter receives an assignment to write a news piece about a crocodile that was killed under the wheels of a truck. A popular comedian faces accusations of violence and desperately tries to save his career. A withdrawn young man transports his crazy neighbor to the hospital, where he accidentally meets a gangster doctor and embarks on a night journey. A brother and sister watch over a mysterious stranger who destroys Soviet signs at night. Ruthless satire and absurdity coexist with unexpected humanity, bitterness gives way to joy, and the usual everyday life is pierced by a draft of non-being.
