«Leopard» 2 – German main tank. Development began in 1970, the first serial sample was released in 1979. Several modifications have been produced, the most common being «Leopard» 2A4. The armament of «Leopard» 2A4 consists of a 120-mm smoothbore gun from Rheinmetall and two 7.62-mm machine guns. The tanks have continuously upgraded armor protection and fire control systems, with a speed of up to 70 km/h.
The tank is equipped with multilayer composite armor that protects against cumulative and kinetic projectiles. The tank is in service with the armies of Germany, Austria, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Greece, Finland, and other countries.
