Dubrovsky. The Captain's Daughter

The prose of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799-1837) is as energetic and concise as the verses of the great poet. Small in volume, it unfolds a deep and historically accurate picture of the time, everyday life, and manners, while the images of the heroes reflect a truly Russian character: passionate and contradictory. This edition includes two novels: "Dubrovsky," which is based on a real case from life, and "The Captain's Daughter" - a story of the heroes' coming of age against the backdrop of the Pugachev uprising. These works are united by the theme of "noble robbers." And it is up to us to decide how justified they were in their right to robbery and revenge. The ideals of personal freedom and rejection of oppression are intertwined in them with cruelty and the absence of a moral law in the soul. But human feelings, love, and compassion still turn out to be stronger than the "meaningless and merciless Russian uprising."
