Nov

The novel "Nov" — "a remarkable work meant to create storms and upheavals for many years to come" — was first published in 1877. A very witty novel and completely new for Turgenev — the author assigned the main role in the novel not to individual fates of people, but to the social conflicts of the era. The noble main character strives at all costs to understand his own people and is ready to make any sacrifice for this purpose. He denies himself everything in the name of a high goal and struggles with internal contradictions: is he making the right choice? In this edition, the story "Calm" and the tale "Yakob Pasynkov" are also included.
