Kiryushka

The stories of Vera Karasyeva are dedicated to the children of the blockade, who remained children despite the deprivations and hardships they faced. They helped the younger ones. Supported the adults. Saved each other. Hoped for a miracle. And sometimes a miracle knocked on their door. Food was found. A bundle of firewood was brought into the house. The bread ration was increased. On New Year's, Grandfather Frost would come and bring a gift. There was so much nettle that it would be enough for a thousand borscht. The illustrations by A. Reznichenko convey the character of the heroes: freezing, hungry, but not giving up, not losing courage and believing that spring will come, and with it, Victory.
