The Abyss of Saint Sebastian

Two art critics devoted much of their lives to studying one painting — "The Abyss of Saint Sebastian" by the Dutch painter of the 16th century Hugo Beckenbauer.

The obsession with the canvas became both a reward and a punishment for both — the painting brought them professional recognition but also served as the cause of a quarrel that disrupted their once strong friendship.
An intellectual, at times absurd, journey from Oxford to Berlin through the art galleries of Europe.

A dark yet comical tale of excessive ambitions and inevitable retribution.
