The Gadfly

He was young, naive, in love, full of libertarian ideas and romantic illusions. He was deceived, slandered, rejected, and despised. He disappeared, faking suicide, and returned to his homeland only thirteen years later — under a false name, with a disfigured appearance, a twisted destiny, and a tormented heart. He appeared before the people he once knew and loved dearly, a mocking cynic with a resonant and biting journalistic pseudonym, The Gadfly. And few managed to discern behind this mask the passionate, impulsive, noble nature of a man still faithful to the beautiful ideals of his youth... "The Gadfly" — the best novel by English writer Ethel Lilian Voynich — continues to captivate today with its intense drama related to the image of the main character, vibrant, strong, tragic.
