Stories in the Palm

Before you is the third, revised, and supplemented edition of "Stories in the Palm" by the famous Japanese writer, Nobel Prize laureate Yasunari Kawabata (1899-1972). Kawabata wrote this book of short stories throughout his life, adding new texts, rearranging them, and sometimes even discarding what he felt was unsuitable for the new collection. Numerous editions varied in composition but were published under the same title — "Stories in the Palm." Kawabata said that this book was his most beloved creation.

The finest understanding of how a person shaped by Japanese culture is constructed found not only international recognition. In Japan, the writer was awarded the title of "living national treasure." Kawabata's masterpieces allowed the whole world to feel what it means to be born Japanese.
