Imogen Waterstone's reputation was destroyed when she was caught in the bedroom of Lord Venwick – her friend Lucy's husband. No one believed the girl's innocence. But that's not all: the subsequent death of Lucy was unanimously deemed a suicide by society, in which the "debauchee" Imogen was also blamed, – and only she knows that it was actually Venwick who was responsible for her friend's death. The determined girl is unwilling to let the murderer get away clean. She devises a desperate, risky plan for revenge. A plan that could cost Imogen her life if help doesn't come from the traveler and archaeologist Matthias Marshall, the Earl of Colchester – a man who fears no one and nothing in the world. But how can Imogen persuade the earl, who seems to be interested only in a mysterious vanished civilization of ancient times, to participate in her dangerous adventure?..
