Herbert Wells' novels do not contain today's realities – computers, space shuttles, and hadron colliders, yet they are read with unwavering interest and will never leave the bookshelves. Whatever may be the subject of condemnation in Wells' novels – the machinations of the underground Morlock slaves, the inaction of the wealthy Eloi, or the illusion of omnipotence and impunity of the overconfident scientist – in the 100 plus years since the first publication of “The Time Machine” and “The Invisible Man,” human vices and weaknesses have not changed much.
