The identity of the legendary ancient Greek poet Homer remains a mystery, but he is considered the author of the greatest monuments of world literature – the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey” – poems that have withstood the test of time. Homer's epics have had a tremendous influence on all world literature, becoming one of the main impulses that gave rise to the great European poetic tradition.
The book presents both of Homer's poems in classic Russian translations by Nikolai Gnedich and Vasily Zhukovsky. The publication is accompanied by detailed commentary and a glossary of mythological and geographical names and terms.
