«There is a type of modern reader — a lover of detective stories. This reader was created by Edgar Allan Poe», — said the famous writer Jorge Luis Borges about the great predecessor. Edgar Poe is credited with the existence of not only this type of reader but also a special type of writer. His influence is marked on many remarkable phenomena in world literature. The founder of the detective genre, he also successfully created masterpieces in other genres: horror novellas with elements of fantasy; romantic tales of love that knows no bounds; and much more.
The singer of «disturbing rustlings», Edgar Poe is unique in all that he is famous for in modern thrillers. Borderline states, the horror of the soul before the abyss, the split consciousness are masterfully depicted in his novellas. Precision in details, authorial detachment, and a subtle parody of the nightmares of the Gothic novel — these and other distinctive features of Edgar Poe's prose have made it captivating reading for many generations.
The collection «The Fall of the House of Usher» includes some of the best works of Edgar Poe — psychological, detective, and fantastic. Mysterious stories in which it is difficult to draw the line between reality and fiction, and horror suppresses all other feelings.
