Jack Greenedal, the son of a poor falconer, fell in love with a beautiful neighbor, the daughter of a wealthy tax collector. But her father aims for a bird of higher flight as her groom. However, our simple Jack, even with the wind in his pockets, does not shy away from the wind. The blade, the bullet, the Bastille, and the scaffold do not frighten him — for love he is ready to fight “where it is possible and where it is not.” Well, fate, beware!
The next volume of the “Masters of Adventures” wholly belongs to Amede Ashar, a comrade of Dumas and Feval, the guardian of the glorious musketeer traditions in literature. The book includes two sparkling gems of the cloak and dagger genre — the novels “Belle-Rose” and “Royal Hunt,” telling about the wild and passionate era of Louis XIV.
