Mickey Barnes is a disposable, "one-time" employee of the expedition that is supposed to establish a colony of people on the icy planet Niflheim. If a mission is too dangerous or even deadly, the command sends Barnes, and after his death, creates a new copy preserving all memories.
Currently, Mickey exists in his seventh incarnation, but he continues to wonder: is he the same person he was originally? Or, as he dies, does he each time come back a little different? It seems that soon he will have to find the answer. Of course, if Mickey-7 manages not to die - once and for all.
