Josephine Tey (real name — Elizabeth MacKintosh; 1896–1952) — a famous writer, daughter of a Scotsman and an Englishwoman, a recognized master of British detective fiction. The novels "Miss Pym Turns Things Upside Down" (1946) and "The Hoax" (1949) belong to the later period of her work and explore the dark sides of humanity. Who finds it easy to cross the forbidden line, and who would never take that step? Tey guides her characters through ambiguous situations, and they have to deal with both confusing circumstances and their own souls: "What about an illegal, yet very profitable scheme? And if remaining on the side of good can only be at the cost of personal well-being?.." "A Gentleman of Fortune" (1952) — the last novel by the writer, it was published posthumously under the pseudonym Gordon Daviot. This is an adventure-filled fictionalized biography of Henry Morgan, a famous pirate, privateer, and seafarer.
