"Ice Cream in Waffle Cones" by Maria Boteva is a collection of three poignant and remarkably honest stories about the lives of teenagers.
The heroes of the story "Ice Cream in Waffle Cones" are an unusual family whose home is open to anyone struggling to live in a big world. Children and adults can leave at any moment — to the sea, to the edge of the world, to unknown distances... And then they always return — to where they are loved and awaited. The classmates from the "School on a Matchstick" make an important discovery together: one can only save others by learning to understand oneself. And the funny and touching girl, the narrator of the story "A Place for Celebration" knows how fragile the human soul can be — and loudly exclaims: "Long live the heart!" It is very difficult to talk about this book — its characters and the circumstances they find themselves in are so different from each other. It simply needs to be read. Read, pausing, thinking, returning to previous pages, smiling or struggling to swallow the lump in your throat. So that later you can feel that you have discovered something important.
The book "Ice Cream in Waffle Cones" made it to the list of the best books of the year by the internet resource "Bibliogid" in 2013, the longlist of the "Kniguru" award, and received a special prize from the V. Krapivin award. In 2014, it was included in the list of outstanding children's books of the world "White Ravens," compiled by the Munich International Children's Library.
