Liu Cixin is a laureate of the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation Award for 'Influence of Imagination on Society'; the Sky Award 'For Special Perspective'; the Hall of Fame of Chinese 'Galaxy' and 'Nebula' Awards as both a best author and for special contributions to science fiction. This collection, which includes many stories and a short novel, allows a glimpse into the future and past of humanity through the lens of unique Chinese culture. The stories in which science seeks answers to global philosophical questions of existence interweave with simple human lives. 'An innovative and compassionate view of how knowledge shapes and transforms humanity. Liu bases his stories on contemporary Chinese life and society, using the science fiction genre to address questions about humanity's place in the Universe. This is a must-read for all fans of hard science fiction.' — Publishers Weekly 'A comprehensive look at Liu's work, showcasing his writing in a style familiar to readers of the 'Three-Body Problem' trilogy, as well as in other, perhaps more unexpected styles. Highly recommended.' — Booklist 'These stories beautifully blend hard science fiction and soft emotion. Liu's works maintain a calm, business-like style, even when conveying inventive cruelty and beautiful imagery.' — Shelf Awareness 'This is magic. It is a time machine; a tunnel that allows you to travel back in time to see what the Chinese version looked like in 1985, 2010, 2020, or 3000. The collection gives us a window that opens up a view into a different science fiction landscape, distinct from what we've seen for decades.' — NPR 'Liu Cixin is the author of your next favorite science fiction novel.' — Wired 'Deceptively simple, yet delightfully intelligent book, I just adore it.' — Love Reading 'Liu's sense of humor is quite infectious.' — Locus 'This book offers valuable lessons, but Liu does not intend to give them to you.'
